Usually a buyer offers less than the general worth of an item so I usually counteroffer roughly 40% higher keeping in mind we meet in the middle, so offered price+20%
This, while I have a minimum price in mind sometimes people will offer well above it. In which case everyone is happy. If they offer below, I tell them what I was thinking.

If a seller tells me "offer" in response to smaller items worth < 10k, I just tell them "nevermind"

I used offer because I mean it, I have no clue what some of these idiotic skins are worth, nor do I care now.

Its a no win scenario. If you price too high, it's OMFG noob. If you price too low, its 'think" OMFG noob as you rush to buy it.

Spam selling is tedious..and so are the pro sellers/buyers. That is why, now, I really don't bother, whatever it is.. it gets merched.

^This is probably the simplest reply here that I agree with, and I agree that it is very annoying. If the seller says 'offer' or 'what u give?', I simply don't respond.

One thing, if you put "offer" and get lowballed, you basically asked for it.

Last week this annoying pube was selling a stack of clovers with no price tag, I ask him how much, he says offer, now this is just after wintersday and rainbow canes are prolific, and what with raptor farming and the vatirs and paddy's day around the corner I figure these things can't be worth more then 100g ea(i managed to hoard like half a stack last year in about an hour), maybe I get a bulk rate up to 20-25k, so I start my offer low, 10k, the dude starts pubing out saying i'm a noob and he wants 120k, and spends the next like 5 minutes harrassing me till I just put up the idiot screen and tell him I'll just get em free in a few months, GG no sale.

Thing is I had the cash and was in a spending mood, wouldn't have dropped the 120k, but might have gone to 50k if he was polite and made a case for it, but nope, like you're going to make a sale if you pube out in whisper chat....

Although, last time I put a price tag on something, was my R13 storm daggers, I read the guru PCs, look through auctions, and everything said in the neightborhood of 20-40k, so I start my offer at 50k, and I got it, first bite. But RIGHT after I hit the trade, I still hadn't changed my add, and a guy pm'd me a 100k bid....

Well, I don't trade much, so I certainly wouldn't say "offer", but given that I don't trade, I'm often in a state where I'm talking to some guy about selling something, but neither of us has any idea what those things are supposed to go for.

Fortunately, apart from sweet tooth, I'm all out of goals in GW that money can buy, so I sell stuff extra cheap. Like elite tomes for 2k and so on.

I never liked that way of selling and never whisper people that do. If i have to buy of sell i put the price in and never negotiate prices. I only buy and sell on a second pc so i can game and don't waste time on standing whole day in spamadan.

When confronted with this kind of crap, I just offer half what I want to pay for it.

They usually get mardy and offended, that's the sign of a terrible seller and a great opportunity, unable to deal with the tortures of trade, they would rather remove themselves from the deal than take the required steps to complete.

If they mardy up, count to 200, try them again on a different character, with a different but similar offer, try ecto's instead of cash. Just keep plugging until they finally agree to something having decided for their own terrible self that it might not actually be worth what they think it's worth.

God, I hate it when people refuse to hassle a bit with me for an item.. They just think I will magically offer 500e for their retarded worthless crap, but if I offer something they don't like, they tell me to gtfo.. Same with buying items, when I was buying El tonics, especially with the El beetlejuice, people were always asking me howmuch I offered, and instead of dealing with it and trying to get a better price, told me to gtfo.. F*cking retards..

Nice strategy, only, that won't work for me, since all my characters start with "Bright" so that would be kind of obvious

Because they are retards, no more needs to be said.

I have sold so much stuff and not once have I said 'offer' like a dickhead. I want to sell something, I tell them my price and they say yes or no, selling isn't rocket science.

Anytime anyone says 'offer' to me I just ignore them and move on since unless you offer a crazy price, they wont sell it to you anyway.

Main reason... cos they have NO IDEA how much its worth... and want you to make an offer so that they can get a ballpark figure and assess how much your willing to pay. If you dont like it, dont reply?

1) they don't know the exact price

2) they want to let u think that the item has great value so you will offer much more then current value.

easy...when they tell me: Offer, i say "name ur price or gtfo"

I say offer because I'm rubbish at prices, I know the ballpark usually but more often than not rely on the other person for price

Different strokes. I try to do my best to set a fair price for an item and I don't like to haggle unless it's a high-end item. You can make me a lower offer, but chances are that I will simply say "no thanks" unless I'm getting really tired of standing around and need to get the item out of inventory. That doesn't make me a retard. (Of course, if I responded "gtfo" instead of "nty" to someone making a different offer, then I *would* be a retard.)

I don't like haggling. An automatic auction system may be fine. But I won't waste time with haggling.

For example, If I set a price of 50K or 5e for an Oppressor's weapon, that's the price, and that's it. I don't care if I could get over 70k for it, I don't care if you got another one for 30K, and I don't care if you have 30K and 2e.
The price is set, it's fixed, it's 50K or 5e, and it won't change. I won't haggle. Choose one.
You don't like it? Move along, don't nag me about prices.

But still, people keep haggling and haggling, so I got bored of it and I no longer trade almost anything at all, with a few exceptions.

I SO wish the Xunlai Market wasn't scrapped... sigh...

I can't wait for GW2 and a proper trading system, instead having someone nagging me for 5 minutes to basically give them the stuff they want so bad for free, until I finally get fed up and ignore them.

@MithranArkanere: I agree. A proper AH is where it's at. It helps to smooth prices out for sure. No more, "I will buy the item you are selling". Then you open trade and instead of putting the amount in the window that you are asking for, they try to trade you worthless junk and then beg.

On topic: I have been guilty of the "offer" thing before. I usually do it on items that are really hard to get a real price on like cele compasses, bds's etc. that are all over the board because of different req.'s etc. At least now you all know who to throw rocks at in Kamadan.

I can understand a person asking the buyer to " offer" if they don't know what the item they are selling is worth.

But when the offer is made ANSWER THE BUYER

When I make an offer I put it at the low end of the reasonable amount. If you answer me and haggle a bit you will get me up to mid or even upper end of the range if I want the item badly enough.

But if you don't answer back with a counter offer you will lose the sale and stand around for another 2 or 3 hours looking for someone to buy your item.
